The Career Center will host a free LinkedIn workshop for students today from noon to 1 p.m. in Room 110P of the Student Services Building.
Mark B. Fauble, assistant director of the Career Center, says that many students want to know how to stand out among hundreds of other candidates. LinkedIn can help create that opportunity and can help manage your online profile in a positive manner. “Most people have heard the saying ‘It’s not what you know, it’s who you know,’ which directly applies to LinkedIn,” Fauble said. “It allows you the opportunity to investigate not only who you know, but who they know as well. LinkedIn is like Facebook for professionals: a way for students to separate their personal and professional lives.” LinkedIn offers a job search feature that allows users to search for job openings and see if they have any connections within an organization. LinkedIn creates the opportunity for users to start their career in an organized and professional way. “Many students have questions about how to set it up the right way and how to actually use it,” Fauble said. “This presentation will give them the chance to explore and understand the various options and how to use them.” If students need special accommodation, contact the Career Center at 309-438-2200 or by email at
