Illinois Heart & Lung Foundation will be hosting Women’s Health Night today at the Bone Student Center to represent McLean County’s hospitals.

The event, being the largest community health fair in McLean County, will take place from 3-7:30 p.m. Several events will occur during these times to support the health of women.

Emilie Gill, a programming coordinator intern at ISU, explains how she and one other intern have been planning and advertising for this event since August.

The biggest part of the event is the keynote speakers, Gill said. Season 11 winner of “The Biggest Loser,” Olivia Ward, along with her husband Ben Ward, will be talking about their weight loss journey and giving tips to the audience on how to stay healthy.

Also, the couple will be answering any questions the audience may have afterward.

Another exciting occurrence at Women’s Health Night is the fitness demonstrations every half hour beginning at 4 p.m.

These shows include hula hoop demonstrations, a dance-fit show that incorporates mothers and daughters, Zumba and a work in action demonstration.

“The work in action aspect of the show is basically going to illustrate to the audience how they can stay fit at work,” Gill explained. “They will be showing little desk exercises and other things you can do to keep active on the job.”

Raffle tickets will be sold, and door prizes and giveaways will be handed out, as well.

Finally, free health screenings will be going on throughout the event. Both hospitals from Bloomington and Normal will be performing tests that check glucose, bone density, blood pressure and cholesterol. Also, a test to identify skin cancer will be available.

Gill also mentioned a nursing scholarship she has created for students, and although it will not be available until next year, she is going to introduce it Tuesday during the fair.

Admittance to Women’s Health Night is free and open to the public. Free parking will be available at the Bone, as well.
