After splitting up the first two outdoor competitions followed by a break last weekend, the Redbirds were back together again in Des Moines, Iowa for the 37th Annual Jim Duncan Invitational. The women’s team posted three new Duncan Invite records.

Head softball coach Melinda Fischer becomes winningest coach in MVC history

In what marked head coach Melinda Fischer’s 900th and 901st wins of her career, the Illinois State softball team swept Bradley at Marian Kneer Stadium on Thursday, making Fischer now the winningest coach in ISU athletic history, as well as in Missouri Valley Conference softball history.

Investigating deep within the crevices of any piece of culture is often the best way to find some of its most fascinating aspects. Case in point: Irish road bowling. Road bowling, or “Bullets,” is a game I first discovered watching Anthony Bourdain swing life away with some Irish locals on “No Reservations.” Now that I have played the game a handful of times myself, I have taken enough interest to learn some history about the game.

Unlike the more traditional Illinois State sports teams, club sports receive little funding from the school. Students who participate in club sports often balance more than just school and sports. Many of them also have jobs to fund their participation in club sports.
