The Bloomington-Normal area and much of central Illinois will be under a flash flood watch from 10 p.m. Tuesday through Wednesday evening.

The National Weather Service in Lincoln said the area could see periods of heavy rainfall from Tuesday night into Wednesday evening. The situation is a result of a stationary front across the area that could generate several inches of precipitation falling on already saturated ground.

The NWS calls flash flooding a “very dangerous situation” and urges local residents and motorists to monitor later forecasts.
