One thunderstorm whistled through the Bloomington-Normal area Tuesday afternoon and more could be on their way.

The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 7 p.m. Tuesday.

In addition to McLean County, others in the watch area include Christian, DeWitt, Logan, Macon, Mason, Menard, Peoria, Sangamon, Tazewell and Woodford counties.

The National Weather Service in Lincoln has also placed the area under a flash flood watch, effective Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning.

The NWS reports that thunderstorms with potentially heavy rain are expected to move into central Illinois Tuesday evening and extend into the overnight hours. The storms could produce between 1 and 1.5 inches of rain in some areas. Because the ground is already saturated, some flash flooding could occur.

The NWS warns that flash flooding can present a “very dangerous situation” and urges residents to closely monitor local weather conditions.
