Normal Police Department is asking for information regarding a New Year's Eve homicide involving a 17-year-old male. 

NPD believes the victim was attending a "large social gathering" near 1700 block of Putnam Avenue. According to a statement from police, a disagreement between two groups escalated, resulting in shots being fired. 

Shortly before midnight, NPD was called to respond to the shots fired and found the victim with a gunshot wound in the abdomen. The victim later died at a hospital. 

An autopsy is scheduled for Jan. 1, the identity of the victim will be released pending notification of the family. 

According to a statement, NPD believes the incident to be contained within the two groups and does not believe the incident to be directed toward the general public.
