The Connect Transit Board of Trustees announced its new interim general manager to provide guidance to Connect Transit until a permanent general manager is hired.
Mark Peterson will be taking the position and replacing Interim General Manager and COO Martin Glaze. Peterson's past leadership as the Town of Normal city manager has given the town recognition on a regional and national level for several innovative programs and practices.
Programs and practices include the effective use of public/private partnerships, innovative urban planning initiatives and electric vehicle technology deployment.
The Connect Transit board has also voted to extend its fare collection suspension on all transportation services until March 8, 2021, including the Connect Transit fixed-route bus service and Connect Mobility paratransit service.
“By eliminating fares over the winter, Connect is able to provide safe and reliable service to the Bloomington-Normal community while also providing peace of mind and relief to our riders and staff,” Connect Transit Chairman Ryan Whitehouse said.
Connect Transit plans to continue operations at a reduced service schedule to ensure necessary cleaning of buses and facilities. Buses are sanitized and cleaned throughout the day and every night for passenger safety while riding.
