A pedestrian who was killed Wednesday night at the intersection of Veteran’s Parkway and Fort Jesse Road has now been identified.

The victim was Vincent V. Shorten, age 25. He was pronounced dead at 8:33 p.m. on Wednesday. The cause of death was multiple blunt-force injuries resulting from the crash. The toxicology reports are pending.

In a new release from the Normal Police Department, the McLean County Coroner's Office said that preliminary investigation indicates a second vehicle was involved.

The release said that the pedestrian was hit by a minivan traveling northbound on Veteran's Parkway, then while laying in the road was possibly struck by another vehicle. Investigators believe it was a dark-colored full-size pickup truck of unknown make and model.

The fatality is the second involving a pedestrian on Veteran’s Parkway in the last two months. That individual was struck at the intersection of Veteran’s and Empire Street on Sept. 26. The victim died several days later.

According to the Normal Police Department Facebook page, Veterans Parkway has reopened following the accident.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is encouraged to contact the Normal Police Department at (304) 454-9535.
