The Normal Zoning Board of Appeals is set to hear the request on Jan. 28. If the board approves it, the Normal Town Council will consider hearing the request at the Feb. 3 meeting.
If the Normal Town Council approves it and the dispensary retrieves a state license, it would be McLean County’s first recreational cannabis dispensary. The Green Solution will also be allowed to open a second recreational location within the McLean or Dewitt county areas.
Since recreational cannabis was legalized on Jan. 1, customers in the Bloomington-Normal area have had to purchase it legally in Champaign-Urbana, Springfield or Peoria.
There will be no impact by an ownership change as long as The Green Solution doesn’t make any changes regardless of the application for the permit in Normal.
For the current 46 approved cannabis dispensary licenses in Illinois, medical dispensaries were allowed to apply for either a same site recreational license or to open a second location nearby.
If approved in McLean County, The Green Solution would apply for a same site recreational license.
