BPD DUI arrest

A Normal man was arrested Sunday night after an attempted hit-and-run drunk driving incident.

According to a Bloomington Police report, at 7:38 p.m. Sunday, officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of West Market Street for an accident with injuries.

Reports stated that a truck struck a person, a bench on the sidewalk and a utility pole and was attempting to flee the scene of the accident.

Officers located a 38-year-old woman who was struck by the truck at the scene of the crime. The woman was transported to Advocate BroMenn Medical Center with minor injuries, the report stated.

Police later located the vehicle and driver in question in the 900 block of West Mulberry Street after it drove off the road and crashed into another vehicle, the report stated.

The driver, later identified as Joshua T. Schaller, 39, of Normal, was arrested without incident.

Police also located two juveniles who were inside the vehicle during the incident; they were released to a parent/guardian, according to the report.

Schaller was arrested for probation violation, endangering the life and health of a child, driving under the influence, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, traffic lane usage, leaving the scene of an accident with injury, aggravated reckless driving, driving upon a sidewalk and illegal squealing or screeching of tires.

Schaller is being held at the McLean County Jail.
