The Normal Public library has been serving individuals in its community through its many helpful resources and is participating in a global movement Tuesday.
In the spirit of the holiday season, Giving Tuesday is intended to inspire people to give back to their community now and throughout the year.
This year’s campaign will begin Tuesday and those interested in joining can donate by check made out to the Normal Public Library Foundation or sent into the library. Automatic monthly giving is also available online.
This year, the Normal Public Library is dedicated to raising funds for a new Sensory App for the library to create a safer and more welcoming environment for patrons living with autism and their families.
The Sensory NPL app was created by Infiniteach and is available for both Apple and Android devices. It features customizable visual schedules, text and video narratives, tap-to-talk communication charts, maps, tips and more.
The library’s goal is to raise $5,000 for Giving Tuesday this year to include this personalized app at its location.
Last year, over $5,000 was raised to purchase a Google Expeditions Virtual Reality kit that allows people to “travel” the worlds and learn about new places without actually ever leaving Normal.
The library continues to improve year after year thanks to the many donations brought in by community members.
