A Normal woman was identified as the driver killed in a crash Thursday on Normal's northwest edge.

Rachel A. Dean, 25, was pronounced dead in the OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center trauma room in Peoria around 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said Friday.

According to police, Dean was headed eastbound on I-74 about 4 p.m. While driving in the left lane, she swerved left, and as she attempted to return to her lane, she over corrected. The vehicle spun, crossed over to the right side and went through the guardrail near mile marker 125.

Due to slowed traffic, there were two more accidents, including a rear-end crash involving seven vehicles, and a rear-end crash with two semitrailer trucks on the westbound side at mile marker 123.
