Parking Permit

Parking Permits go on sale in the beginning of August for students at Illinois State University. Parking Permits can be picked up at the Office of Parking and Transportation at ISU.

Besides investing hundreds of thousands of dollars to endure four years of higher education, one of the hardest things to do at Illinois State University is finding parking.

Each summer as the incoming freshman class blows through town for Preview, they are always paid a visit by the police department to have a Q&A session. One of the biggest things they advocate to students is to not bring their car to school. This advice could be considered wise.

As the July 15 parking pass sale date approaches it is important to consider whether this is another cost that students want to take on. For student commuters, faculty and staff, choosing not to purchase a pass may not be an option, but for students who live on or around campus heed this warning – there is no maximum number of passes that can be sold.

This results in selling far more passes than parking spots are even available. Lines of cars begin to form and it becomes a fight to the death to find a parking spot that usually ends in a sweaty, frantic sprint across the quad to make it to class on time. If you don’t get to campus at least 30 minutes before class starts, you will likely end up having to park on the opposite side of campus and walk even farther or even pay the visitor parking fee of $1/hour. That doesn’t sound terrible until you end up paying for more parking than actually using the pass that was supposed to save you from that.

Parking enforcement is also very strict on campus because of the limited spaces, so always be sure to read signs thoroughly because tickets are far from a rarity at ISU. Purchase at your own risk. The parking passes that will go on sale July 15 include:
