The crime rate in the Town of Normal is the lowest it’s been in 23 years, decreasing almost 70 percent since 1996

A teacher at Glenn Elementary School in Normal was recently charged with sexual assault allegations.

Jonathon Hovey, 47, of Forsyth was arrested Friday and charged with two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault and four counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

According to a Normal Police report, police were contacted in April by Mclean County Unit 5 staff regarding a complaint from a parent that the child’s teacher “repeatedly touched a female student inappropriately.” The report stated that the incident occurred on district property.

This report resulted in the reopening of a 2005 report with similar allegations of Hovey inappropriately touching a young girl who was a first grade student at the time, the release stated. The charges reflect both incidents.

According to police, Hovey is currently being held at McLean County Jail on bond. This investigation is ongoing.
