Interim Dean of CAS Diane Zosky addresses an event in 2018.

Diane Zosky, the interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Illinois State University, will serve another year in that role.

The decision comes in the wake of the planned June 30, 2020 retirement of Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Jan Murphy. Her retirement plans were announced Wednesday.

In an email to College of Arts and Sciences personnel Thursday afternoon, Murphy said she is postponing the search for the CAS dean’s position until the fall of 2020. She said the postponement will allow the incoming provost “to initiate the search process for this important position.”

In her announcement, Murphy praised Zosky “for her extraordinary leadership and her willingness to continue in this role for another year.”

Zosky was originally named interim dean in February 2018, replacing former dean Greg Simpson, who retired. Prior to that, Zosky was director of the School of Social Work at Illinois State, where she also served as a professor.

Murphy was appointed to the role of interim vice president for Academic Affairs and Provost in 2017 and transitioned into a permanent position in 2018 after serving more than 10 years as associate provost and interim provost in 2008.

Illinois State University President Larry Dietz said that a search will begin for the next vice president for Academic Affairs and provost as Murphy finishes up her time with the university.
