Gymnastics 2020

The Illinois State Gymnastics team held a home meet Friday night in Horton Field House against Northern Illinois University. The competition was fierce but the Redbirds came out on top winning the meet 93.625 to 93.400.

Angelica Labat earned Midwest Independent Conference Gymnast of the Week honors after posting 38.950 all-around score against Southeast Missouri State, helping her win the all-around category for the third time this year.

Labat’s scores of 9.875 and 9.700 on bars and beams tied for event wins. Labat’s career-high all-around score wasn’t enough, as the ’Birds lost 192.775-192.475.

Gymnast of the Week is the third weekly achievement for Labat. Earlier this season the freshman took home Newcomer of the Week after a meet versus Northern Illinois, and Performance of the Week for her score of 9.925 on beam against Central Michigan and Michigan State earlier in the year.

The Redbirds will be on the road again for a tri-meet hosted by the Air Force Academy and featuring Seattle Pacific. The meet will start at 2 p.m. Saturday, and will be available to watch on ESPN+.
