Redbird football offensive guard Kyle Avaloy was awarded the MVFC Offensive Lineman of the Week award for his performance on Saturday’s game against the Southern Illinois Salukis.
The Lombard, Ill., native, who is a junior at Illinois State University, graded out a 97 percent on Saturday’s game and is credited with seven knockdowns on Saluki defensive players. He also did not allow a single defensive sack on fellow teammate Tre Roberson.
Avaloy played a vital role in protecting fellow teammate Marshaun Coprich, who was also awarded by the MVFC as the Offensive Player of the Week. Avaloy’s performance gave Coprich an advantage to run 254 yards throughout the game along with three touchdowns.
Avaloy’s performance also gave the running game an exquisite performance as it ran for a season-best 372 yards, including Coprich’s 254 yards; 7.9 yards per rush. The running game also managed to score all of the team’s six touchdowns to down the Salukis, 42-21.
Avaloy is expected to play even better in next Saturday’s game against the Coyotes of South Dakota, preventing some sacks upon Roberson and giving Coprich some holes to run through and make some good yards.
