Illinois State's Ryan Cermak celebrating during the 2021 season. Cermak took home the Missouri Valley Conference's Defensive Player of the Year Award, as well as a spot on the conference's first team and All-Defensive team.

Illinois State baseball freshman Ryan Cermak continues to add to his trophy case after an impressive first season.

Cermak was named a member of the Freshman All-American team by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper earlier this week. This comes after Cermak was named Missouri Valley Defensive Player of the Year, MVC-First Team and All-MVC Defensive Team.

Cermak had an impressive freshman season in the outfield with a .993 fielding percentage with six putouts. Cermak also led the Redbirds at the plate in slugging percentage (.553), extra-base hits (25), home runs (11), total bases (105), and RBIs (40) with a .284 batting average.
