Blackhawks star singer Jim Cornelison will come to Hancock Stadium Saturday for Illinois State’s game against South Dakota State. Cornelison will serenade the crowd with his famous operatic rendition of the “The Star Spangled Banner.”

Cornelison earned a degree in Arts and Music Performance from Seattle Pacific University before earning a master’s degree in Opera Performance from Indiana University. He moved to Chicago to participate in the Lyric Opera Center for American Artists and landed a job with the Blackhawks.

Cornelison sang the national anthem for the Blackhawks from 1996-2001 and again from 2006-2008 as part of a group of selected singers. Starting in the 2008-2009 hockey season, Cornelison was the sole singer of the national anthem.

The game will start at 2 p.m. and will be broadcasted on CSN Chicago and ESPN3.
