Both the Illinois State University men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the seventh annual Illinois State Invitational on Friday. The men earned a fourth-place finish with the women earning a third-place finish.

The Redbirds’ best overall finish was turned in by junior Jack Anstey. Anstey finished 1st overall in the men’s 8k with a time of 24:41.1.

Anstey was joined in the top-25 by two of his teammates. Junior Jake Gillum, coming off of his 15th place finish in the Hawkeye Invitational, placed 23rd with a time of 25:31.6. Freshman Tyler Klouda came in at 18th with a time of 25:20.5.

The women’s 5k saw junior Grace Beattie leading the way for the Redbirds with a time of 17:40.7 and a second-place finish.

The women had four finishes inside of the top-25 including two of the top four individual times. Joining Beattie in the top four was sophomore Rachel Hickey who ran the race in 17:45.3. The other two in the top-25 were senior Annie Moore at 20th and senior Kennidi Knoblock at 10th with times of 18:24.9 and 18:05.0, respectively.

The Redbirds men’s and women’s cross country are in action again 6:00 p.m Friday at the University of Missouri in Colombia.
