In the National Women’s Soccer League 2020 draft, Illinois State University soccer star and Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year Kate Del Fava was drafted by the Utah Royals FC with the No. 12 overall pick.
Throughout her senior year, the midfielder led the Redbirds to the MVC conference final game where the 'Birds fell just short to Loyola-Chicago, losing 2-0. Del Fava, throughout her spectacular senior season, led the conference in goals (17), points (39), and game-winning goals (6).
She went on to win five MVC Offensive Player of the Week honors, which is the most by any player in conference history.
Being selected with the No. 12 overall pick makes Del Fava the highest drafted woman’s soccer player to ever come out of the MVC. Additionally, she is only the second Redbird to be drafted to the NSWL, following behind Rachel Tejada, who was drafted by the Chicago Red Stars in the fourth round in 2015.
Del Fava departs ISU ranking in the top-10 in several categories, including sixth in goals, seventh in points, fourth in game-winning goals and first in minutes logged with 7,099.
