Former Illinois State University soccer standout Kate Del Fava officially signed with the Utah Royals FC for the 2020 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season. A May 2020 Redbird graduate, Del Fava was selected by the organization as the 12th overall draft pick back in January.
“I’m thrilled to be a part of the Royals FC organization to begin my professional journey,” said Del Fava. “It’s been a dream of mine to play professional soccer my whole life and to have that dream become a reality with such a great club and amazing teammates and coaches is a dream come true.”
The Redbird alum will finally live her dreams as the URFC kicks off the 2020 campaign on June 27 at Zion Banks Stadium in Herriman, Utah. No spectators will be in attendance for the games, but avid Del Fava fans can follow her journey via CBS, CBS All Access and Twitch for fans outside the United States and Canada.
The former Illinois State midfielder capped off an impressive collegiate career with a senior campaign highlighted by a sweep of the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards. Del Fava also led the league in goals (17), points (39) and game-winning goals (6).
Off the field, Del Fava has garnered just as many accomplishments as a Redbird, earning one of 14 Bone Scholarships, the highest academic award a student can receive at the university. She is also a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American and is the only Illinois State student-athlete ever to earn the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team Member of the Year Award.
