Senior Lizzy Wendell of the Drake University women’s basketball program has been selected as a 2017 Senior CLASS award First-Team All-American Thursday.

To be eligible for a selection into a Senior CLASS award category, a student-athlete must be a senior playing for an NCAA Division I team and must have notable achievements in the four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. The 22-year-old forward from Blue Springs, Mo. is one of 10 women’s basketball players that met the qualifications for the award.

In the competition area, Wendell performed well in the court as she tallied a total of 2,551 points, which is third most in both Drake and Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) history, and led the Bulldogs to an MVC Championship with a program-record 28-5 season record. She also received several career awards for her performances on the court, including four consecutive All-MVC First Team honors and a Jackie Stiles Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year award this recent season.
