Women's gymnastics versus University of Chicago on January 31, 2016.

In an extremely tight competition from the beginning, the Illinois State University gymnastics team beat Southeast Missouri State Friday evening by a score of 193.850-193.550.

The Redbirds’ best performance  of the competition was on the balance beam, where they finished with a score of 48.650. Illinois State took an early lead with a 48.450 on bars and never trailed the rest of the night.

Senior Amanda Mohler was the ’Birds strongest performer on the night with a first-place finish on the beam with a score of 9.850 and another first-place finish on bars with a 9.800 score.

Freshman Meredith LaRoche also had a strong performance, as she finished in second place with an all-around score of 38.900. LaRoche tied for first on the floor and tied for second on vault.

ISU hosts Michigan State, Wisconsin-Stout and Western Michigan at 2 p.m. Sunday at Horton Fieldhouse.
