After four consecutive losses, Illinois State's football team has dropped off the rankings. The team was once ranked fifth in the polls after defeating Big Ten rival, Northwestern.

Over family weekend, ISU lost to Eastern Illinois and dropped to No. 9 on the rankings. The next weekend, ISU faced Indiana State and lost 31-34 after starting true freshman Tristan Smith as quarterback. Illinois State replaced Smith with regular starter Jake Kolbe, but it wasn’t enough to get the win, and ISU dropped to 18th in the rankings. The following weekend, ISU travelled to North Dakota State, and lost 10-31, causing its rank to drop from 18 to 23.

With the loss to Youngstown State, ISU has officially dropped off the FCS rankings completely. ISU is also last in their conference rankings. Youngstown State’s ranking went up from 15 to 14 after the win against ISU.
