With a bye week upon the Illinois State Redbirds, they will play the waiting game until Sunday when the FCS playoff bracket is revealed, to see if their 6-5 record is good enough to make the tournament.
Head coach Brock Spack is taking this time to get his guys rested and ready to go for a potential playoff run. ISU is looking for its third straight FCS playoff berth, after winning a share of the Missouri Valley Football Conference in each of the last two seasons.
“We are coming out here Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and practicing. Our seniors will be in helmets only, and anyone who needs to rest will have helmets only," Spack said.
The Redbirds will take this chance to get some players practice reps, before letting the student-athletes loose for Thanksgiving break.
“We will practice our younger guys on those days, and try and keep everybody sharp on those days," Spack said.
The bracket will be revealed live at 10 a.m. Sunday morning on ESPNU. The Redbirds are hoping for a chance to prove that the last three weeks have been their true identity, and can play with the best of teams in the country.
As just about every team does in the NCAA basketball tournament. “We’re not going to have any watch party or any of that stuff here," Spack said.
