Following a shortened 2020 season, Illinois State senior David Perkins was named the Missouri Valley Conference Men’s Golfer of the Year, as announced on June 30.

This recent honor follows being recognized as an All-American by the Golf Coaches Association of America and PING, as well as being named the MVC Men’s Golf Scholar Athlete of the Year. Perkins’ under par average of a 69.39 over the 2020 season was the lowest recorded average in the MVC since the 2003 season. The next closest average to Perkins’ impressive numbers is nearly three strokes back.

During the condensed season, Perkins competed in six tournaments and 18 rounds. Finishing in the top 10 five times, Perkins finished at even par or better in 16 of the 18 rounds.

Perkins joins two fellow Redbirds who have been awarded the prestigious honor, following Trent Wallace in 2019 and Matt Miller in 2007.

Perkins is joined on the all-conference team by Matthis Besard (Southern Illinois), Tim Lim (Drake), Nate Vance (Loyola) and MVC Newcomer of the Year Caleb VanArragon (Valparaiso).
