In its final home meet of the 2016 season, the Illinois State University gymnastics squad lost a head-to-head battle versus Bowling Green State University. Overall, the ’Birds tallied 192.225 total points. BGSU totaled 194.175 points.

“I was very proud of the girls,” head coach Bob Conkling said. “It’s been a rough couple of weeks with sicknesses and concussions and they really fought through. It is always hard to take people out of your starting lineup. But the other girls really stepped up and put in a lot of hard work.”

Amanda Mohler competed in her final home meet at Illinois State. Mohler earned a team-best 9.875 beam score as well as posting a 9.750 on the uneven bars.

“Amanda had an awesome senior night,” Conkling said. “She won both events against tough competition.”

This weekend, the squad will travel to Cape Girardeau, Mo., to participate in the Midwest Independent Championships (MIC).

“We will be ready to jump back into things and get some of the girls who were out back into the routine of practice,” Conkling said.

ISU is searching for its first MIC title since 2012.
