Illinois State baseball standout John Rave is officially a part of the Kansas City Royals organization.

On Sunday, The Athletic first reported that Rave, a fifth-round draft pick in the recent Major League Baseball Draft, signed with the Royals for $300,000.

Rave later tweeted to confirm the signing.

In his tweet, Rave said he is “Excited to start this crazy journey! Let the grind begin.”

Rave recently completed his junior year at Illinois State. He is a product of Bloomington Central Catholic High School. In 2016 he was selected in the 35th Round of the MLB Draft.

At ISU he was an outfielder for a team that came within one win of advancing to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division Baseball Tournament earlier this month.
