Senior captains Rachel Tejada and Aryn Newsom were named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar Athlete First Team while Gabbi McArtor and Brooke Ksiazek were named Honorable Mentions.

Tejada who was also named the MVC Player of the Year, dominated the MVC in numerous categories this season. She led the MVC in goals (20), assists (11) and points (51).

Newsom led the Redbirds to eight shutouts this season. She went over 300 career saves and won her 50th game during Saturday’s first round win against USF.

McArtor and Ksiazek have been part of a rock solid defense as well as an explosive offense. The duo helped lead the Redbirds to limiting MVC opponents to just two goals along with recording four shutouts. McArtor netted one goal dishing out two assist while Ksizek netted two and assisted one.

The four MVC Scholar Athletes along with the rest of the Redbirds will travel to Los Angeles, California for the NCAA Tournament Second Round. ISU will face off against No. 11 Pepperdine, looking to advance to the Sweet 16 for the first time in school history. Friday’s kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Drake Stadium on the campus of UCLA.
