The Illinois State soccer team fell to Marquette, 2-1, Thursday night at Adelaide Street Field. The Redbirds remain winless on the season at 0-3-0. Illinois State returns to action when the Redbirds host Eastern Illinois University at 1 p.m. Sunday at Adelaide.

The Illinois State soccer team hosted a Redbird 4 Life event Saturday evening to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the program.

After the celebration, the alumni were invited to play a match. Some notable attendees include: Rachel Tejada, Alyse Williams, KellyAnne Bernard, Kristen (Horvat) Matthews, Beth (Seidelmann) Bataoel and Annie Wayland.

Former head coach Pete Kowall, often considered the father of the program, was in attendance as well.

During the Sunday soccer game halftime, the Julie Heidecke Award was presented. This award was created after Heidecke, who played on the ISU women’s soccer team for only one season, was tragically killed in a car accident. The award is given to a player who demonstrates Heidecke’s commitment, spirit, determination, leadership, sportsmanship, academics, morality and concern for others.
