The Illinois State soccer team repeated history tonight defeating South Florida 3-2 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Following last year’s historic first round win against Louisville which went to penalty kicks, ISU will once again be advancing the round of 32, this time winning in regulation.

Senior captain Rachel Tejada continued to prove why she is one of the nation’s top offensive threats as she netted two goals in Saturday’s win. She now has 20 goals and 11 assists on the season. Dagny Olson also scored for the Redbirds. Tejada, Zickert, Farkos and Olson were all credited with assists.

The Redbirds will now travel to California next week for the second round of the NCAA Tournament. ISU will face Pepperdine University in the round of 32 on Friday 7 p.m. CST. The second round matchup will be played at Drake Stadium on the campus of UCLA.
