The 2020 Summer League Academic All-League Selections were made Wednesday as voted on by sports information directors and faculty athletic representatives from the league’s members institution. Among those selected was Illinois State University junior Brandon Lew.
Lew was one of five men's tennis standouts to make the cut. During the shortened 2019-2020 season Lew went 7-7 in doubles play. Toward the end of the season he went on a run winning three of his last four matches in the month of February earning the No. 3 spot. During singles play Lew was 2-2 on the year.
While as a sophomore in 2018-2019 Lew found playing time in three matches during the dual season recording a perfect record earning a No. 6 spot. Cameron Peterson— Lew’s doubles partner — and Lew finished 3-4 on the season earning Summit League Academic Honor Roll and to the Summit League Commissioner's list.
During Lew’s freshman year is where it all began for his Redbird journey as he posted a record of 6-3 in singles play and 5-5 in doubles. Lew would go on to receive his first Summit League Academic Honor Roll honor.
It comes as no surprise that his talents on the court would receive notice but also his talents in the classroom. Lew currently holds a perfect 4.0 grade-point average in his respected accounting major at Illinois State University.
Head coach Mark Klysner had high praise for his junior’s honors.
"It's a well-deserved honor for Brandon, who works so hard at everything he sets his sights on. He is truly one of those guys that every coach hopes to have on a roster every year. We are very proud and happy for him and this acknowledgment." Klysner said.
