The Redbirds, including Dalton Keene (98), finally took home an exciting win over Southern Illinois Saturday night.

Dalton Keene was selected as the MVFC defensive player of the week Sunday for his efforts in Saturday’s win against Southern Illinois. Keene played a key role in holding back SIU’s strong offense.

The Jacksonville native managed to tally nine tackles and 1.5 sacks against the Salukis. One of the sacks led to a fumble from SIU, but the quarterback recovered it. Keene also blocked a field goal, the second of his career. The blocked field goal helped keep the Redbirds ahead in this tightly matched game.

Keene is ranked fifth on the team through this season’s seven games with 47 tackles and is second on the team for tackles-for-loss with 6.5. He also has two pass breakups and 2.5 sacks.

The ’Birds will return to action Saturday as they fly to the DakotaDome to face the South Dakota Coyotes.
