With rumors circulating for weeks now on the impending college basketball season, the NCAA Division I Council met on Wednesday to announce Nov. 25 as the official start date to the season.

College basketball insider from CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein confirmed the decision via Twitter.

Practices are set to begin Oct. 14, giving six weeks before the official start date.

Both Illinois State University men's and women's basketball teams have yet to set a schedule at this time.

The Nov. 25 start date is subject to change if given reason to because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The NCAA Division I Council is expected to meet again in October, where they will address the start date once again.

The original start date for season was Nov. 10 but was pushed back due to concerns with the coronavirus.
