The Missouri Valley Football Conference will add the University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks to its list of teams in 2020.

The team was a member of the Big Sky Conference since 2012, and they only won the conference championship and entered the FCS Playoffs last year. Before the Big Sky Conference, the Fighting Hawks were a part of the North Central Conference, where they won a NCAA Division II national championship in 2001 and 23 conference championships before leaving in 2008.

The Fighting Hawks became the fourth collegiate team in the Dakotas to enter the MVFC after the South Dakota State Jackrabbits, University of South Dakota (USD) Coyotes and the North Dakota State (NDSU) Bison, who have been a long-time rival since 1894. UND has a current record of 62–45–3 against NDSU and a record of 61–29–5 against USD.

UND will pay the MVFC $300,000 to get in, and its other sport programs will be joining the Summit League during the 2018-2019 season.
