Courtney Pence has been named Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season, the league announced Monday.

The junior registered 7.38 digs per set over the weekend in Illinois State's first two MVC games of the season.

The Springfield native tallied 36 digs in Friday's five-set loss to Missouri State, which ranks fourth-highest in Redbird Arena history.

Pence came back on Saturday night with 23 digs in the three-set sweep of Southern Illinois.

She ranks second in the nation in both digs (356) and digs per set (6.36).

Illinois State travels to Evansville Monday night for their first MVC road match of the 2017 season.
