Illinois State junior libero Courtney Pence was named Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, the league announced Tuesday.

Pence earned the honor after receiving a selection on the All-Tournament team at the Marcia E. Hamilton Classic last weekend in St. Louis. Throughout the three matches of the competition, Pence averaged 7.18 digs a match.

Pence currently leads all Division I players with 7.45 digs per set.

Pence and the Redbirds will host their first matches of the 2017 season this weekend, as the team is slated to play Cincinnati, Dayton and Seton Hall at Redbird Arena.
