Traveling to the Gans Creek Classic, Illinois State University’s men's and women's cross country were led by junior Jack Gillum and sophomore Rachel Hickey on Friday night. 

Gillum paced the men in the 8k finishing 23rd with a time of 26:34.9. Sophomore Matt Blanco came in 37th with a time of 26:48.1.

With 207 points, the Redbirds took home seventh, topping Missouri Valley foe Southern Illinois University. 

Hickey topped the women finishing 17th in the 6k with a time of 22:37.8. The next ’Birds to cross the finish line were redshirt-junior Grace Beattie and sophomore Annie Moore coming in at 39th and 40th. 

Totaling 162 points, the women finished in fifth place. 

The Redbirds will compete next at the Bradley Classic on Oct. 18.
