The Illinois State women’s soccer team is looking for a win Friday against Pepperdine in the second round of the NCAA tournament. A win would put the team in round 16 for the first time in program history.

The team advanced to the second round for the second year in a row with a win last week against South Florida 3-2. Pepperdine will be a tough match for the ’Birds, as they are ranked No. 11 in the nation. The Waves enter the match 15-2-4 and are coming off a shootout victory against USC in the first round of the tournament.

This matchup will be between ISU’s powerful offense and Pepperdine’s stingy defense. ISU broke the season record for goals last week, increasing the mark to 58, and Pepperdine has allowed just 15 goals all season. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST on the campus of UCLA. The winner will face the winner of the No. 1 UCLA/Harvard game on Sunday afternoon.
