The Oklahoma Sooners scored an early goal and did not let its foot off the gas since, defeating the Illinois State Redbirds 7-1 Friday night.
This was ISU’s first road test and resulted in its first loss, too.
The first goal was scored by Oklahoma sophomore, Erika Yost, at 9:36.
Oklahoma scored three more goals before the half, including an own goal, a goal from Oklahoma senior Jordan Hobart, and Hailey Davidson.
The Sooners led 4-0 at halftime and extended their lead in the latter portion of the game.
Kaylee Dao scored twice off of two headers in the 58th and 61st minute.
Senior Emily Parker scored Oklahoma’s seventh goal in the 77th minute.
Kiley Czerwinski scored off a penalty kick to give ISU their only goal of the match in the 86th minute.
Oklahoma won the shot ratio, 15-8.
Illinois State was stifled offensively, as OU stopped it from attempting a single corner kick.
The Redbirds first loss of the season puts them at 1-1-1, while this win makes Oklahoma 1-2.
The Redbirds will look to rebound at 1 p.m. Sunday at Tulsa.
