ISU senior running back James Robinson.

The accolades continue to pile-up for Illinois State All-American running back James Robinson ahead of his senior season.

Robinson, a Rockford, Illinois native, was named to the 2019 STATS FCS Walter Payton Ward preseason watch list as announced Wednesday. This award is given to the best offensive player in the FCS, and 25 players were named to the list. Robinson was a finalist for the award last season.

This announcement comes just a day after Robinson was placed on the Missouri Valley Football Conference preseason first team. He was also named a STATS FCS and HERO Sports FCS Preseason All-American.

The 5-foot-10, 220-pound Robinson was a MVFC First Team All-Conference selection last year after leading the conference in rushing yards (1,290). He was also tied for second in the league with 12 rushing touchdowns.

During his sophomore season, Robinson was again second in the MVFC with 12 rushing touchdowns, and was third in the conference in rushing yards (933) en route to his first MVFC All-Conference First Team selection.

Overall, Robinson has accumulated 2,545 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns to go along with 348 receiving yards and two touchdowns throughout his ISU career. He currently ranks fifth in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns in Redbird history.
