Illinois State University Men’s Basketball team received a boost today as head coach Dan Muller announced that the NCAA permitted Sy Chatman’s immediate eligibility waiver. Chatman is a 6-foot-8, 220-pound power forward who transferred from the University of Massachusetts.

Since the waiver was granted, he is now eligible to play in ISU’s first game scheduled on Wednesday, Nov. 25. Before announcing his transfer in December 2019, Chatman averaged 5.7 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game. He then announced in June his decision to transfer to ISU.

With senior forward Keith Fisher III opting out due to COVID-19 worries, Chatman adds depth to ISU’s forward position.

Mueller reiterated that Chapman's transfer gave them an alternative in the front court and said he needs to play at a higher level consistently if he wants to be able to make an impact on the team. However, Mueller also said it is up to Chatman to earn his minutes in this upcoming ISU basketball season.
