Senior Illinois State University soccer captain, Rachel Tejada, has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week. The announcement comes in consecutive weeks an ISU player has been recipient of the award after Dagny Olson was announced last week.
The award is Tejadas third MVC honor of the season. It comes after Tejada continues to break the record books, this time not with her scoring, but her passing ability.
Tejada picked up the 39th assist of her career, tying an MVC record on Sunday against Indiana State. Ali Farkos and Tejada assisted Hannah Leinert for her second goal of the game putting the Redbirds up 3-0 in the first half. It was her eighth assist of the season, which also leads the MVC.
In addition to her passing, Tejada also racked up two goals during last Wednesdays win against Northern Iowa. Tejadas goal total on the season is now at 12, first in the MVC.
ISU clinched the MVC regular season title against Indiana State. They have two games remaining in the regular season. At 7 p.m. Saturday the Redbirds will travel to Drake, looking to complete a perfect 6-0 MVC record.
Following the Drake match, the Redbirds will return home to host Idaho in the last match of the regular season. Kickoff against Idaho is scheduled for 7 p.m. next Thursday, Oct. 30. The matchup will mark the programs first ever night game under the newly installed lights at Adelaide Street Field.
