The Illinois State Redbird football team began its offseason by adding linebacker Tyree Horton to the 2017 roster Thursday.
The Homestead, Fla. native was a former member of the Texas Christian University (TCU) football program last fall. He did not see action during the season, however, while the Horned Frogs went on to finish with a 6-7 record and a 31-23 loss to the Georgia Bulldogs in the 2016 AutoZone Liberty Bowl.
Before transferring to TCU, Horton tallied a total of 88 tackles and 9.5 sacks for Highland Community College in his sophomore year. These stats earned him a National Junior College Athletic Association First-America selection and a Co-Defensive Player of the Year award in the Jayhawk Conference in 2015.
The Redbirds are in high hopes for Horton to put up some good numbers for the program while he will fill in for former linebackers Brent Spack and B.J Bello.
