Illinois State University’s Abby Van Deventer has notched her second straight Defensive Player of the Week honors this week. The MVC announced Tuesday the senior defensive anchor had earned her third weekly accolade of the season, and the eighth of her career.

The honor comes after Van Deventer led the ISU defense to a dominating performance at Northern Iowa on Saturday night. The opposing Panthers were only able to record two shots-on-goal. The East Moline native shut down attacks left and right, and helped ISU to capture its fifth win and third shutout. The shutout was goalkeeper Vanessa Niestrom’s second of the year.

ISU has earned four weekly awards this season, the fourth coming from goalkeeper Jessica Galason. The Redbirds are 2-1 in MVC play and will look to move up in the conference standings when they square off with Missouri State Saturday night.
