The MVC has nominated Illinois State University senior defensive back Abby Van Deventer as the Defensive Player of the Week Tuesday.

The award comes after Van Deventer and the rest of the ISU defense held Loyola and a high-scoring Oklahoma team to one goal each. The Sooners average 2.2 goals per game. Van Deventer is the leader of the Redbirds’ defensive group, and the senior can always be found disrupting opposing attacks and making critical clearances.

The award was ISU’s third of the season, and Van Deventer’s second. The accolade brings Van Deventer’s career total to seven weekly honors. ISU will start a four-game stretch to end the season Saturday night in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
