Illinois State defensive back Abby Van Deventer was named Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the league office Tuesday.

It is VanDeventer’s first award this year and sixth of her career.

The ISU defense was rock solid this past weekend only allowing one goal in 215 minutes of play. Friday against Western Michigan, Van Deventer didn’t allow a player to get by at all to take a shot in the two overtime periods. This is the Redbirds second player of the week award this season.

The team will host Drake this Saturday at 7 p.m.
