Wichita State is on the fringe of entering the AP top-25 poll, receiving 87 votes in the poll released Monday morning.
The Shockers (23-4, 13-1 Missouri Valley Conference) led the field of unranked teams in votes. The Shockers figure to be the first outside team in next week’s poll if they notch a couple victories paired with losses by top-25 teams this week.
Wichita State will take on Southern Illinois Wednesday and Northern Iowa Saturday. The Shockers defeated both teams earlier in the season by double digits.
WSU has not dropped a game since Jan. 14 against Illinois State, 76-62, at Redbird Arena. Since then, the Shockers have rattled off eight-consecutive victories.
ISU has not receive any votes in the poll since losing, 86-45, Feb. 4 at Wichita State.
Illinois State and Wichita State are tied atop the MVC with an identical 13-1 record in conference. Both teams have four games remaining on their regular season schedules.
