Christmas is approaching but the holiday spirit is already here. Many people have been shopping for gifts, decorating and, of course, watching Christmas movies.
Here is a list of some Christmas movie favorites from Illinois State University's students and staff:
“A Charlie Brown Christmas”
This animation series is senior sociology major Emmy Nowicki's favorite. Nowicki explained why it is at the top of her list.
“Not only is it a classic, but a tradition to watch in my family,” Nowicki said. “My dad introduced Charlie Brown holiday movies to my brothers and I at a young age. Charlie Brown is so monumental in my life; I even got a tattoo of a character from the show.”
“How the Grinch Stole Christmas”
This movie, in all its versions, is junior psychology major Ashlyn Frazier’s holiday favorite. She explained why she likes it enough to watch it every year.
“It reminds me so much of my childhood and there’s multiple versions of it, so it never gets old,” Frazier said. “My mom and I always watch it during the week of Christmas together and drink hot chocolate.”
“Elf”
This Christmas comedy starring actor Will Ferrell is a favorite of both senior elementary education major Kelcie Meyer and senior fashion design and merchandising major Faith Manns.
Meyer explained why it is her favorite Christmas movie.
“It reminds me of being a kid and having that magic that comes with Christmas,” Meyer said.
Manns said she likes the movie enough to watch it outside of the holidays.
“It still makes me laugh out loud to this day. I watch it at least a couple times a year,” Manns said.
“National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation”
This 1989 Christmas comedy film is one of senior anthropology major Julia Carranza’s favorites.
Carranza said even though she has not watched the movie recently, it still sticks out to her due to the memory of when her and her mom would watch it during the holidays.
“The Polar Express”
This Christmas fantasy is one of senior English major Molly Koos’ favorites. Koos said she watches for nostalgia.
“Home Alone”
This movie is office administrator Cadie Huber’s holiday favorite because of its humor. Huber called the movie “hysterical.”
“A Christmas Story”
This 1983 Christmas comedy film is a favorite for customer support associate of the math department Evan Tawzer.
Tawzer said this movie is a favorite of his because it is a tradition to watch it with his family every year.
